CBI judge takes Rs 10 cr bribe to grant bail to Gali
It is alleged that the First Additional CBI Judge Pattabhi Ramarao accepted a bribe of Rs 10 crore to grant bail to former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy in an illegal mining case.
The deal was said to be brokered by a Karanataka BJP MLA, an AP Congress minister and a retired district judge. It was reportedly agreed that Rs 3 crore would be paid before the bail order and Rs 7 crore thereafter. Ramarao had granted bail to Reddy, the key accused in the Obulapuram Mining Co (OMC) illegal mining case on May 12.
The CBI has seized some bank lockers belonging to the judge and his son. The agency zeroed in on the bank account held by Pattabhi’s son and seized an amount of Rs 3 crore in the Ashok Nagar branch of Bank of Baroda.
Meanwhile the Chief Justice of AP has suspended Judge Pattabhi Ramarao. He is likely to be arrested along with other accomplices.
