AP Congress Legislature Party meeting today
The Congress high commanded decided to convene the Andhra Pradesh Congress Legislature Party meeting on Friday in Hyderabad to elect a new leader.
The present Chief Minister, K. Rosaiah, will be elected as CLP leader. However, in the time-honoured tradition, the CLP will pass a single-line resolution authorising the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, to name the successor to the late Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. As is the Congress routine, the AICC observers will inform the Congress president on the single-line resolution and then return to the meeting to disclose her choice.
The Congress high command deputed the Union finance minister, Pranab Mukherjee, and the Union law minister, and in-charge AP affairs Veerappa Moily, to attend the CLP meet as observers.
Rosaiah’s political position would be strengthened once he is elected as CLP leader. He is expected to name one minister from his Cabinet as floor leader of the Assembly.
