Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare was formally arrested and remanded to judicial custody for seven days when he refused to give a personal bond for his release. He was produced before a special executive magistrate in the afternoon and later has been shifted to Tihar Jail.
Anna Hazare was held on the apprehension of breach of peace following his intention to defy prohibitory orders and go on an indefinite hunger strike.
The police were prepared for his release on a personal bond if the Gandhian would have given an undertaking that he would not defy Section 144 of the CrPC that prohibits the gathering of five or more people.
Since Hazare refused to give an undertaking, the special executive magistrate remanded him to seven days in judicial custody.
