In spite of stray incidents of violence, the first phase of polls were by and large peaceful with police maintaining strict vigil. Around 65% voting took place amid complaints of EVMs not functioning and voters names missing from the list.
Hyderabad is the first of the Big Six metros, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, to vote in the five-phase general election.
Even the affluent turned early to vote. In Hyderabad, the constituency of Ibrahimpatnam recorded 77%, Chevella 75%, Secunderabad 63%, Khairatabad 53%, Nampally 52%, Jubilee Hills 60% and Kukatpally 53%.
The 2nd phase of polling takes place on April 23.
