Twenty nine people died and several others were injured in a stampede during Godavari Pushkaram festival in Rajahmundry on Tuesday. The stampede took place due to heavy rush at Kotagummam pushkar ghat in Rajahmundry.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is on the spot and expressed intense grief, is also personally monitoring relief and rescue operations. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that “This is very unfortunate and shocking. I came here many times for review arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the event. But some problems cropped up in execution”.
The Chief Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s family and also said, for the next 11 days he would be in Rajahmundry if necessary.
The bodies of victims and who were injured are shifted to the Rajahmundry government hospital, some of them are in critical condition.
