It has now been proved scientifically that a judicious combination of exercise and diet can can prevent diabetes.
A study has been undertaken by researchers of Emory University and the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation. The study was conducted on 1,253 randomly selected pre diabetes people after screening around 20,000 people from Chennai right from slums to corporate offices. The selected group has pre-diabetes symptoms like obesity, high blood pressure and abnormal glucose mechanism.
With a minimum of 150 minutes of walking or jogging in a week, and a healthy low fat diet for four months, doctors found that people lost between 2.5 to 6 kg of weight, and their blood glucose levels became normal.
Madras Diabetes Research Foundation will soon come out with a chart prescribing the exercise-diet combination for various pre-diabetes people who are in the age group of 30 to 60 years. The exercise and diet varies with age.
