Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 and is one of the finest human beings that ever lived on this planet. A trained Bar-at-Law, Gandhi championed the cause of civil rights in South Africa. His civil disobedience movement coupled with non-violence or ahimsa brought him to the attention of the Indian Freedom Movement. He lead from the front and through a bloodless non-violent movement won the freedom for India from the mighty British Empire.
Gandhi lived a life of a politically active saint staying at his ashram in Sabarmathi. It was noble laureate Rabindranath Tagore who first called him Mahatma meaning the noblest soul.
Mahatma Gandhi had been conferred with the title of Father if the Nation.
Recently, US President Barack Obama stated that he had been greatly influenced by the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.
Today is the day for all to respectfully remember Mahatma and redidacate ourselves to the principles and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.
