Ticketless Travelers pay Rs 40 Crore Penalty to SCR

Hyderabad, Oct 11 (INN): In order to ensure a comfortable and secure travel to the bona-fide passengers, SCR undertook a series of regular checks and special drives against ticketless / irregular travel on its jurisdiction involving 3,000 ticket checking staff including Railway Protection Force personnel during the month of September, 2013.

During September 2013, ticket checking staff of SCR detected and penalized 2.34 lakh persons for committing the offence of either Ticketless Travel or irregular travel or traveling with un-booked luggage and an amount of Rs. 06.97 Cr. was realized from these ticketless / irregular travelers towards penalty.

During the first half of current fiscal ie., April to September, 2013, SCR detected 13 lakh persons committing the offence of ticketless / irregular travel, which is 13.6% more than the cases detected for these offence during the corresponding period of last fiscal. An amount of Rs. 40.7 Crore was collected from these offenders towards penalty, marking an increase of 11 per cent over the penalties collected during the corresponding period of last fiscal.

The surprise checks carried out by the Flying Squads in the Divisions and Head Quarters helped enhance the effectiveness of the ticket checking activities at various stations and in trains with an aim to curb the social menace of ticketless and irregular travel. (INN)
