A British tabloid, the Sun, claimed on Monday it had busted a visa scam that gave potential terrorists a chance to sneak into Britain with the Pakistan Olympic team. It claimed that its staffers infiltrated a crime ring offering false passports, visas, and access to London 2012 as bogus support staff. The alleged scam was being run by Pakistani officials, a Lahore politician and the Dream Land Travel Agency in Lahore, the Sun said.
An undercover investigator infiltrated the ring offering false passports and visas, and was provided a genuine Pakistani passport with a fake name.
Lahore politician Abid Chodhary was covertly filmed saying he could get him a two-month visa and smuggle him into London as part of Pakistan’s Olympic squad for £7,000.
The tabloid alerted the home office, MI6, UK Border Agency and the British high commission in Islamabad.
