The lone convict in the ‘Bandit Queen’ murder case, Sher Singh Rana, has been imprisoned for life by the Delhi High Court on Thursday.
Rana, 35, had been convicted under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC for murdering Phoolan at her residence here on July 25, 2001. However, the prosecution lawyer had been battling to get death penalty for Rana describing him as a threat to society.
Prosecution lawyer told the court that It is a crime of murder which was committed in a pre-planned manner and was methodically executed by him (Rana).
The prosecution added, “Keeping in view the impact on the society … I request the court to award death penalty“.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Rana.
Rana had sought mercy from the court. Rana also told the judge that he wanted to do something good for the society.
