A fortnight after the collapse of the 136 ft Srikalahasti Rajagopuram, the ‘Addala Mahal’ (mirror hall) in the 600-year-old Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy temple at Punganur in Chittoor district collapsed on Friday. Temple officials said the incessant rains in the past two days could have weakened the structure further.
Chief priest Srinivasacharyulu said the cracks inside the shrine were noticed on Thursday evening and the temple was immediately closed. Around 10.30 am on Friday, the mirror hall collapsed. “The mahal was adorned with mirrors on all sides.
