Mayor Pulls up Officials for Wrong Reports on Dengue

Hyderabad, August 26 (INN): GHMC Mohammad Majid Hussain has said that one should feel ashamed while submitting a wrong report.

The Mayor held a review meeting with Entomology officials with regard to seasonal diseases in his chambers on Monday. He said that he has visited two dengue patients in Lotus Hospital on Sunday, one of which is arrived from his own Ahmed Nagar division. He has directed the Assistant Entomology, Circle-7 to feel ashamed while giving wrong information to the higher officials and further directed the Lotus Hospital to fetch more details.

Majid Hussain directed Chief Entomologist Venkatesh to issue charge memo to the Assistant Entomologist, Circle-7 for giving wrong information. He further directed the Chief Entomologist to furnish the hospital wise cases list by tomorrow, if there is any variation between the official list and hospital list the concerned Assistant Entomologist will be issued charge memo.

The Mayor enquired with the Chief Entomologist about the initiatives that are being taken up by him after taking charge as Chief Entomologist. Venkatesh, has explained to the Mayor that they have intensified the IEC activities (Awareness Programmes) and they have also taken up door to door Anti Larval Operations. The Mayor said that he was not at all satisfied with the activities of Entomology wing and further directed to take up special drive in each and every school starting from tomorrow.

Majid Hussain enquired about Rs. 10 crores of special budget allocated for Dengue prevention, which was allocated in view of sudden increase in number of cases of dengue last year (total cases reported last year 604). He further warned the officials that if he starts verifying the details of diesel and material (which are diverted from regular business) the officials will land in trouble. He further directed the officials that the lion share of public money should reach public at any cost.

The Mayor further enquired about the Binami (ghost) workers and directed the Chief Entomologist to furnish the unit wise details by tomorrow along with the phone number of each worker in order to get verified with the concerned Corporator or through a private agency. He further informed that the list furnished by the Chief Entomologist should tally with the field staff otherwise stern action will be against the Chief Entomologist.

The officials of Entomology wing informed the Mayor that they are conducting brain storming sessions for absconding workers. Reacting to that, the Mayor said that there was no necessity for conducting brains storming sessions for absconders, they could be straight away removed from the job, as there is no dearth for employment seekers and further said that pressure from Corporators and unions is his headache for removing the absconders.

Senior Entomologists Lachi Reddy, Vijay Kumar and Namala Srinivas and all 20 Assistant Entomologists have participated in the meeting.
