Maoist Azad killed in encounter
The Communist Party of India (Maoist) central committee member, Cherukuri Raj Kumar alias Azad was one of the two Maoists, killed in an alleged exchange of fire near Sarkepally village of Adilabad district. Raj Kumar, more popularly known as Azad, was the party central committee spokesman and was believed to be a close confidante of Maoist Chief Muppalla Laxmana Rao.
According to police sources, the gun battle took place some 15 km from Maharashtra border. An AK-47 rifle and two pistols were recovered from the scene.
