Hyderabad, Sept 12 (INN): The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday asked the State Government to reconsider the appointment of four State Information Commissioners.
The court issued these directions while delivering its verdict on a petition filed by Forum for Good Governance questioning the appointment of S Imtiaz Ahmed, M Vijaya Nirmala, L Tantiya Kumari and V Venkateswarlu as State Information Commissioners. The court also directed the government to recommend four new names for appointment as State Information Commissioners within a period of six weeks.
It may be mentioned that in addition to these four, the State Government had sent the names of Vijaybabu, Prabhakar, Madhukar Raju and M Ratan for appointment as SICs. However, the Governor had rejected the candidature of Imtiaz, Nirmala, Tantiya Kumari and Venkateswarlu and returned the file to the government.
Later, the State Government sent the file to the Governor again with the same eight names and he had no option but to put his stamp of approval. However, the Forum for Good Governance approached the court and while delivering its verdict, the court asked the government to reconsider the appointment of four SICs.
