Hyderabad, July 23 (INN): The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has filed a criminal case against Abbas Constructions and Structural Engineer whose compound wall collapse killed six people in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu, an apartment building was under construction in Mehdi Jung Colony at Moula-Ali in Malkajgiri Circle and the old retaining wall to a length of about 30’ feet on western side collapsed outside on to the two small thatched huts resulting in loss of lives of six persons and two children survived of injuries. This incident took place in the night at about 00.30 AM on Tuesday.
There was an old retaining wall with RR masonry with lime mortar on two sides of the site with a height of about 12 feet and the builder further raised the height of wall by another 4 feet and filled the site with soil. Thus the level difference of about 15 feet is resulted on western side above rear side ground. Due to continuous rain and heavy load of earth the retaining wall to a length of about 30 feet was collapsed.
Immediately after receiving information, the officials of GHMC rushed to the spot and initiated necessary remedial and rescue measures to save lives of those who were under the rubble. A JCB was immediately arranged for removal of debris and services of rescue personnel from NDRF, disaster management team from CISF, AP Fire Services Department and AP Police Department were taken.
The dead bodies were removed in the presence of Police and sent to mortuary in Gandhi Hospital under the supervision of Police. During the operation departments like Revenue, Fire, Emergency Medical, Transport worked in co-ordination with GHMC.
The deceased have been identified as K. Venkataiah (35), K Padma (27), Mahadev (38), Padma (32), B Anil (12) and B Shiva (10). Two children – K Avinash (10) and K Anusha (5) survived in the incident. The two children have been admitted into the Thulasi Hospital at ECIL ‘X’ roads.
The Commissioner said that the land owner Qamar Jahan Taleyaver and seven others have applied for grant of permission for construction an apartment building with four blocks in site area at Moula-Ali and permission was granted for cellar, stilt +5 floors for residential flats and amenities block vide permit no. 7/29, dt. 31.08.2010. The applicant has commenced the construction of west side block with Ground+1 floor.
