GHMC Commissioner Seeks Report on Road Damages

Hyderabad, July 22 (INN): GHMC Commissioner M T Krishna Babu has directed the officials of National Highway, R&B, Police and GHMC to give a written statement to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Supply Board with regard to damages on roads due to water supply and sewerage within 10 days.

The Commissioner held a review meeting with the officials of Hyderabad Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board, National Highways, Road & Buildings division, Police Department on maintenance of various badly damaged roads in the jurisdiction of GHMC. Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner said that it is only the beginning of the season and the meeting is intended to finalise the strategy to tackle the situation. He directed the Executive Engineer, GHMC and the General Manager, HMWS&SB to take up joint inspection for identifying problematic areas and to prepare the estimates within 10 days and further informed that the responsibility fixed on concerned Superintendent Engineers.

The Commissioner has informed that GHMC area has received a rainfall of 355 mm where as the normal is 215 mm which is 65 per cent extra in this season. He expressed his happiness over the appreciation of the Police Department saying that the water logging is not that problematic when compare to that of previous years.

Krishna Babu informed that most of the COP-11 works are in the Period of Defect Liability the badly damaged roads of that works will be identified and will be entrusted to Contractors who have taken up the works earlier in COP-11. He further informed that out of 69 works that were taken up on the COP-11, 53 works were checked for quality by Quality Control Cell and reported that 37 works are in good condition and remaining 16 works are defective.

The Commissioner said that the existing pipe lines from Dwaraka Hotel to Assembly building have to be replaced and to be improved. He directed the Metro Water Works to come up with the proposals so that GHMC can decide on work and funds by allocation GHMC, HMWS&SB.

The Engineers of GHMC have complained that the restoration works taken up by the Metro Water Works and HMR (Hyderabad Metro Rail) are sinking. The Commissioner has informed the officials concerned to provide the funds to GHMC to take up all restoration works wherever there is coordination of works.

The Commissioner further directed the GHMC Engineering officials to take up the desilting of culverts. He informed that each zone must be provided with a dedicated team to take up the deep sewerage cleaning with all the modernized equipment.

He has directed the Superintendent Engineers to furnish the statement regarding water logging points within a week. He also desired to fill the pot holes with hot mix by duly using the roller to derive good results on B.T road works.

Krishna Babu directed the Superintendent Engineers to personally monitor and to clear of all the bills pertaining to desilting by the month of August end 2013 and further directed Engineer-in-Chief to update the Commissioner on weekly basis. The Commissioner further directed the officials to take up the works as per the citizen charter and up load the same on website, failing which heavy fines will be levied on the concerned officer.

Sunkara Satyanarayana, Addl. DCP, R. Dhan Singh, Engineer-in-Chief, GHMC, P. Surya Narayana, CGM, HMWS&SB, P. Manohar Babu, Director, HMWS&SB and Senior Engineering officials from National Highways, R&B, and GHMC have participated in the meeting.
