Gandhi memorabilia auction in US cancelled

James Otis, the US owner of Mahatma Gandhi’s iconic round glasses and other memorabilia said he had agreed in principle to cancel the auction of these items which became controversial.
James Otis said he had agreed in talks at India’s New York consulate to donate the glasses, sandals and other belongings to the Government of India after he received assurance that India would increase spending for the health of the poor and use the memorabilia in an international exhibition.
However, there was no immediate confirmation of the deal or public response from the authorities in India.
