Does Baba Ramdev practice Yoga?
Doubts are being expressed by Yoga experts that Baba Ramdev may not be practicing what he preaches. When the yoga guru undertook his fast at Haridwar, his health deteriorated in just four days and he had to be shifted to the hospital.
Yoga experts say that when a true yogi goes on fast, he can survive
for at least 100 days – a sort of Samadhi. In that state, a yogi does
not take food or water and even controls his breathing. This aspect
has given rise to the speculation that Baba Ramdev may not be
practicing what he teaches. His herbal medicines are also being
questioned now for their efficacy.
He was criticised by Indian yoga teachers for his lack of mental
toughness because of which he was forced to give up his fast after
eight days. BKS Iyengar, India’s internationally renowned yoga guru,
also endorsed the same view. On Tuesday, speaking to a group of
Chinese yoga practioners, Iyengar, aged 93 years, lashed out at those
who “sell programmes like kapalbhati”, saying such preceptors are
corrupting Patanjali’s yoga.
