It is another sad and bad morning for the Delhi. Six people including an Engineer were killed when the DMR Bridge under construction was collapsed in the early hours of Sunday. There are around 30 workers working on the bridge at the time of mishap. The bridge collapsed when the construction workers are fixing a prefabricated slab on a pillar, which has developed cracks long ago. Though, it was brought to notice of the concerned contractor by the concerned authorities he preferred to make a patch work to it, instead of repairing the whole structure, which is supposed to carry the load of a passing train in the future, along with its self load.
Experts are with the view that the negligence shown by the contractor in repairing the pillar is the main cause of the mishap.
Delhi Metro Rail Project Managing Director E.Sridharan who was at Bangalore on an official tour has cancelled it, and immediately returned to the site. Taking moral responsibility for the mishap he submitted his resignation letter to Delhi Chief Minister Sheela Dixit, and to the Governor, but it was rejected by them and he was asked to continue with his project.
