Curfew Relaxed as Peace Returns to Vizianagaram
Visakhapatnam, Oct 8 (INN): Following improvement in the situation, curfew was relaxed for one hour in the violence-hit Vizianagaram on Tuesday morning.
People came out of their houses to buy essentials from 7 AM to 8 AM as the large number of security personnel kept a strict vigil across the town. Heavy rush was seen at petrol bunks, ATMs, kirana, vegetable and milk shops.
The authorities said more relaxation could be given in curfew if the situation continues to remain normal. It may be mentioned that curfew was imposed in the town after the Samaikhyandhra (united Andhra Pradesh) protest turned violent on Saturday. The protestors specifically targeted the properties of Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana and his relatives.
Although a few protestors came out on streets defying curfew and shoot at sight orders, the overall situation remained peaceful since Monday. So far, as many as 110 people involved in violent incidents have been arrested. Special teams have been formed to identify and arrest others involved in violent acts. (INN)
