Hyderabad, Oct 10 (INN): A police constable was taken into custody when he shouted “Jai Telangana” slogans before the Congress Legislature Party office in Assembly premises here on Thursday.
The constable, Sanjeevulu, was visibly upset over the ongoing agitation for Samaikhyandhra (united Andhra Pradesh) in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema region. He described the agitation as a conspiracy to stop formation of Telangana. However, the police personnel arrived at the scene and took Sanjeevulu into custody.
Government Chief Whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy, who was addressing a press conference in the CLP, came out and squatted on road demanding constable’s release. On his intervention, he was released by the police.
Meanwhile, TRS MLA T Harish Rao condemned the City Police for taking constable Sanjeevulu into custody. He said if shouting “Jai Telangana” was a crime, then Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar should also be arrested as he has been openly raising “Jai Samaikhyandhra” slogans while in office. He said that the constable’s reaction was just the beginning as the statehood sentiments would intensify further if there was any delay or obstacle in the formation of Telangana State.
