The Andhra Pradesh chapter of National Green Corps (NGC) is mobilizing over three lakh students, from 5,750 schools, in the state o spread the message of the importance of eco-friendly Ganesh idols on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
NGC organized a workshop to the representatives from schools to train them to make eco-friendly idols and to observe and inculcate the view that rituals and worship can actually support the environment. Seventy students from different schools in the state were trained in the 15-day workshop.
W.G. Prasanth Kumar, director, AP National Green Corps said tha in Hyderabad alone, hey are distributing free clay to 250 schools to make 5 feet-high Ganesh idols by using straw and clay.
To make people aware of the importance of safeguarding the environment, NGC will give eco-friendly Ganesh idols free of cost to citizens in all major towns of the state.
