Ayodhya verdict day passed off peacefully in Hyderabad
The citizens of Hyderabad heaved a sigh of relief as the Ayodhya verdict day passed off peacefully in the city on Thursday. Yesterday, police began forcing shop keepers to down shutters to keep people out of streets. Schools and colleges were closed by 12 noon. City buses were withdrawn in the afternoon. Even office-goers rushed home fearing violence post verdict. By 3.30 pm, the streets wore a deserted look. Police had cordoned off sesitive areas with barbed wires to cut off movement from one area to another.
Representatives of some NGOs gave pro-peace demonstrations and raised slogans like ‘Hindu Muslim Bhai Bhai’ appealing to Hyerabadis to follow the path of peace, harmony and brotherhood. The appeals seemed to have worked to a large extent as there were no violent reactions after the verdict was pronounced.
