Hyderabad, August 28 (INN): Different courts have sent as many as 32 persons to jail for driving their vehicles in inebriated condition.
Third Metropolitan Magistrate B Chengalaraya Nayudu convicted 30 people for three days imprisonment each and one person for five days imprisonment for drunken driving. Similarly, Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Shiva Shanker Prasad convicted one person for a period of one day imprisonment for drunken driving.
The Enforcement against Drunk Driving was carried out over the last weekend i.e. on 23rd & 24th August. A total of 294 cases were booked against Drunk Drivers. Hyderabad Traffic Police has also arranged Metropolitan Legal Awareness Programme for the Drunk Driving violators. They were summoned to Traffic Training Institutes, Goshamahal and Begumpet. Third Metropolitan Magistrate Sri B.Chengalaraya Nayudu addressed the gathering and counseled on Tuesday. The cases involved 221 two-wheelers, 17 three-wheelers and 53 four-wheelers.
The respondents were produced before the Third and Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Court and fine of Rs 2100 was imposed.
From 1st January, 2013 to 24th August 2013, a total 8,674 cases have been registered and total imprisonments are 765 as on date.
