Dilip Kumar, the first super star of Bollywood, has turned 86 today. In view of the recent Mumbai mayhem, he has not celebrated his birthday today.
Dilip Kumar released a statement on the Mumbai terror attack.
Hereunder is the full text :
“The diabolically executed attacks on Mumbai were the worst this country has experienced in recent times. What can one say about such inhuman acts of violence against humanity? Is it enough to condemn them, to weep for the victims whose lives were cut short and the survivors who are lying in hospitals seriously injured and disabled? No, the time has now come for us to give serious thought and make a collective effort to stem terrorism.
“This is the time for us to unite as Indians first and then as Mumbaiites and derail our enemies’ attempts to crush the growing importance of our nation among the prosperous nations of the world as an attractive destination for business, investments and tourism. Together we must make it impossible for any terrorist or any enemy to disintegrate our country and dwarf us in the eyes of the world — politically or economically.
“It won’t be long, I am sure, before the Taj and Oberoi beckon to tourists and other visitors to come to Mumbai and experience its unique warmth and spirit of goodwill. My heart also fills with pride for the courage of our armed forces, especially the NSG commandos who fought the terrorists relentlessly for three days. The police officers and constables who laid down their lives amply proved to the common man that there are brave and caring men too in the much criticised and maligned Mumbai Police force.
“ I can feel the anxieties and fears of the common man after the attacks. He does not know what is in store for him when he sets out to reach his workplace by train and bus every day. But his spirit and resilience are admirable. And, of course, all of us have no choice but to move on with our trust and belief in the Almighty.
“I pray for the well-being of the city and its vibrant population, for the country and all the brave soldiers and security personnel who have to face the brunt of any perilous situation when it arises”.
