The Andhra Pradesh state cabinet ratified the proposal to allot 210 acres of land to the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) for setting up a campus at the periphery of the University of Hyderabad.
The Hyderabad campus would be only the second of TIFR outside the one in Mumbai. TIFR is an autonomous institute under the umbrella of Department of Atomic Energy and conducts research ranging from theoretical sciences to laboratory experiments in a broad spectrum of fields.
TIFR is also involved in establishment and running of major experimental facilities of national and international significance in various parts of the country.
The investment of the project is Rs 2,500 crore over a period of 12 years.
