Rest in Peace Bapu!
Legendary director and great cartoonist Bapu whose original name is Sathiraju Lakshminarayana took his last breath on Sunday evening, 31st of August, 2014 in Chennai. He died of cardiac arrest and was 80. He was born on 15 December, 1933 at Narasapuram of West Godavari district. He was very famous as a painter and also as a cartoonist and he will always stand as a pride for Telugu people. Bapu-Mullapudi Venkataramana duo is the example of true friendship and they worked together for many movies.
Bapu made his debut as a director with the film ‘Sakshi’. After that he made many good movies like ‘Balaraju Katha’, ‘Andalaramudu’, ‘Sampoorna Ramayanam’, ‘Bhaktha Kannappa’, ‘Muthyalamuggu’, ‘Seetha Kalyanam’, ‘Manavoori Pandavulu’, ‘Mantrigari Viyyankudu’, ‘Pelli Pusthakam’, ‘Mr. Pellam’. ‘Sriramarajyam’ was Bapu’s last directorial film.
Bapu was conferred with Padmasri by the Government of India in 2013. He also won two national awards, Raghupathi Venkaiah Award, five Nandi awards, Filmfare Life Time Achievement Award etc. We are very sad with the demise of such a legendary personality of Andhra Pradesh. We pay our heartfelt condolences to the members of his family. May his soul rest in peace.
