Raajneeti Hindi Movie Review

The Film

Rajneeti brings out the behind the scenes chicanery in the arena of politics. Though Prakash Jha stated that the film is a contemporary Indian political interpretation of the epic Mahabharata, all gangster film elements right from Hollywood’s Godfather to Bollywood’s Company are skillfully applied to the political scenario in our country.

Rajneeti is a profound exposition of the ground realities of the vicious power games that politicians play.

The Performances

It is Ranbir Kapoor all the way. He performs with such emotive power, he appears to be more mature than the few number of films he acted in. Then it is Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee who deliver sterling performances. Katrina Kaif does very well in an unfamiliar role. Naseeruddin Shah and Nana Patekar do what they always do : deliver mature performances. Ajay Devgn is as fierce as ever. Nikhila Trikha, who played the role of mother to Prithvi and Samar, is outstanding

With author backed roles the cameos of Dayashanker Pandey, Chetan Pandit, Darshan Jariwala, Shruti Seth, Kiran Karmarkar and Vinay Apte give out merited performances.

The Techniques

With a complex story, gripping screenplay and meaningful dialogues often with a punch make this film a great cinematic experience. The cinematography is vibrant and expansive. The sound design is very good. Editing is crisp and adds to the narration speed. Fortunately, the songs were not allowed to dampen the narration. Technically, the film is of very good standards. Production values are high.
