The film “Avatar” made by James Cameron of “Titanic” fame and is releasing in India in English, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil on December 18.
The Telugu version rights for Andhra Pradesh have been taken by B. Madhu, who earlier produced “Tagore” with Chiranjeevi and “Ghajini” with Aamir Khan. The Telugu version is releasing on 200 screens with 150 prints.
The entire film “Avatar” has a blue backdrop and the story per se is about ‘blue’ people on another planet. The digital intermediary, graphics and special effects component is 60 per cent and only 40 per cent has shots of people and places.
Starring Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Sam Worthington, C.C.H. Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Lang and Zoe Saldana, the 161-minute “Avatar” was under production for almost 12 years and is the most expensive film in world history, costing a whopping Rs. 2,400 crore.
James Cameron’s “Titanic” cost about Rs. 1,100 crore. As a contrast, the most expensive Telugu film was the Ramcharan Tej-starrer “Magadheera”, directed by S.S. Rajamouli that cost Rs. 38 crore. The most expensive film in Hindi is “Blue” that cost Rs 100 Crore.
