Non-bailable Case against BJP

Based on a complaint and the direction of the three-member Election Commission (EC), the UP police on Tuesday filed a non-bailable criminal case under section 153A of IPC against Varun Gandhi, BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha elections for allegedly making inflammatory remarks with communal overtones.
The EC also served notice to the Bharathiya Janatha Party seeking its explanation over the remarks allegedly made by Varun Gandhi, a scion of Nehru family and son of late Sanjay Gandhi and Menaka Gandhi.
After viewing the video tape of Varun’s public address, the EC directed the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer to file a case under Indian Penal Code and Representation of the People Act against him.
