Mercurial UP Chief Minister Mayawathi gave the green signal to join the Third Political Front and may even lead it as a Prime Ministerial candidate.
Claimed as an alternative to Congress led UPA and the BJP led NDA, the Third Front consists of a coalition of Left parties CPI and CPM, Janata Dal (Secular), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
With Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati deciding to send Satish Mishra, MP and architect of BSP’s social engineering in Uttar Pradesh, to attend the front’s formal launch at Dobbespet, near Bangalore, on Thursday, the Third Front is assuming significance.
JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has taken the initiative of holding a rally to formally launch the Third Front.
Gowda said that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which has parted ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) in Orissa, had also agreed to become a part of the third front.
