The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to continue the services of noted lawyer, Ram Jethmalani, in the Margadarsi Financiers case pending before the Supreme Court. Jethmalani represented the state government in the Special Leave Petition No. 2847 of 2007 and had attended the hearings last year.
The state government on Saturday accorded sanction for payment of Rs 38,50,000 towards fee for appearance, assistance and retainer fee to Jethmalani. After deducting Rs 3,96,550 at source as income tax, Jethmalani will be paid Rs 34,53,450 for his appearances.
The special leave petition has been filed by the Margadarsi Financiers and two others, against the interim order of the Andhra Pradesh High Court refusing to stay the operation of the Andhra Pradesh Protection of Depositors of Financial Establishments Act.
Sources in the government informed that the next round of hearings in this case will now start in 15 days time and Mr Jethmalani would appear on behalf of state government.
