Here are four actors who personified Mahatma Gandhi on screen.
Sir Ben Kingsley: Played Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in Richard Attenborough’s 1982 biopic Gandhi. The film won eight Oscars, including best actor golden statuette for Kingsley.
Rajit Kapur: Popularly known as Byomkesh Bakshi, Rajit delivered an award-winning portrayal of Gandhi in the 1996 film The Making of the Mahatma directed by veteran Shyam Benegal.
Darshan Jariwala: He Played Bapu in Gandhi, My Father directed by Feroz Abbas Khan who won the National Award for Best Director.
Dilip Prabhavalkar: This Marathi stage and movie artist, became popular with his portrayal of Gandhi in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film Lage Raho Munnabhai directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The film coined the term Gandhigiri.
