Ganguly announces retirement
Sourav Ganguly, the ebullient cricketer and former captain, announced his retirement after the present series of test matches with Australia. Ganguly played 109 tests and scored 6889 runs in 180 innings at an average of 41.71. He is the most successful Indian cricket captain. He scored more than 10,000 runs in ODIs.
Some of his achievements :
1. Of the 21 Tests that India won under his leadership, 12 were recorded abroad, a feat that remains unmatched.
2 . Led India to a stirring come-from-behind series win over Australia at home in 2001
3 . India won the NatWest Trophy in England, chasing down a then ODI record score of 325.
4 . India reached the World Cup final in 2003, but lost to the Australians.
5 . India drew 1-1 with Australia on the 2003-04 tour under his leadership.
6 . Became the first Indian captain to win both Test and ODI series in Pakistan.
