US President Barack Obama lit a ceremonial Diwali lamp at the White House and to showcase the multi-cultural affections of Americans.
In fact, the Diwali celebrations in White House started in 2003 during the Bush regime. It is the first time a US President personally participated in the celebrations by lighting a lamp.
The Diwali ceremony began with a performance by Penn Masala and concluded with a Sanskrit invocation by a Hindu priest from the Siva-Vishnu temple in Washington.
Speaking on the occasion President Obama said that this coming Saturday, Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists in America, India and around the world would celebrate this holiday by lighting lamps, which symbolize the victory of light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance.
