Maharashtra CM’s resignation accepted
The Congress high command on Wednesday night accepted the resignation of Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh who offered to step down in the aftermath of Mumbai terror attacks.
The announcement of the acceptance of Deshmukh’s resignation was made by A K Antony, AICC in-charge for Maharashtra after a meeting with party chief Sonia Gandhi.
AICC observers will arrive in Mumbai shortly to facilitate the choice of a new chief minister. Shinde, Prithviraj Chavan, Narayan Rane, Ashok Chavan and Govindrao Adik are the front runners for the post.
