Former President R Venkataraman passed away owing to multiple organ failure at 1430 hrs today at the Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in New Delhi.
The 98-year-old former President was admitted to the Hospital on January 12 with complaints of Urosepsis, a toxic condition caused by the extravasation of urine into bodily tissues and succumbed to the serious illness. He had been suffering from indifferent health since last couple of years.
Venkataraman had served as the 8th President of the country. His tenure was from July 25, 1987 to July 25, 1992.
As the President of India, he was part of an atmosphere of coalition politics in the country, which necessitated him to usher in three Prime Ministers in two years.
