Arun Jaitley on Tuesday resigned as General Secretary of the Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) after several senior party leaders questioned the party’s wisdom in appointing him as Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
Jaitley was the chief election strategist and has attracted a lot of flak for the party’s performance in the recent Lok Sabha polls. However, he has not resigned as the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha.
BJP President Rajnath Singh today said Jaitley’s resignation as the general secretary of BJP will be accepted on the basis of one member one post. He further added that the resignation of Jaitly had nothing to do with the recent developments in the party or the criticism leveled by Yashwant Sinha and Jaswant Singh.
