Haryana legislators to get more money

Chandigarh, Nov 9 (IANS) Politicians in Haryana have become richer. The Haryana government Tuesday announced that it has decided to provide a salary to Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and to enhance their other allowances.

Legislators will now also get a salary of Rs.10,000 per month, while the salaries of the chief minister, ministers, speaker, leader of opposition, and deputy speaker have been enhanced from Rs.20,000 per month to Rs.40,000 per month.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet held here Tuesday. It was also decided to give a petty grant of Rs.100,000 per annum to each legislator to be utilised within their respective constituencies.

The sumptuary allowance of the chief minister has been enhanced from Rs.10,000 to Rs.20,000 while for the leader of opposition has been enhanced from Rs.5,000 to Rs.15,000 per month.

Other monthly allowances of legislators have also been enhanced. In most cases, the amount has been doubled from the existing allowances.

The pension of former legislators has been enhanced from Rs.5,000 per month to Rs.7,500 per month, a state government spokesman said here.
