OU VC asks Principals to Check Ragging Menace
Hyderabad, July 26 (INN): Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof S Satyanarayana on Friday asked all the Principals of the constituent and affiliated colleges of OU to step up and implement slew of measures to check the menace of ragging in the respective colleges.
Speaking after releasing the Anti-Ragging Poster here, he said that the academic bodies like UGC have been issuing guidelines periodically regarding the rules and regulations to be implemented to put an end to ragging. He also said that the personal vigilance of the teachers and administrative staff of the institutions concerned helps in this regard. The Principals should try to establish a harmonious climate on the campuses of the respective colleges, he said.
Prof K Pratap Reddy, Director, Directorate of Academic Audit, O.U. said that for the last two years no case of ragging was reported and suggested all the Principals to constitute Anti-Ragging committees comprising Student Advisor, Student representative and a representative from Police department and the Principal of the respective college as its Chairman. He said that it is mandatory to conduct three meetings every year bringing awareness among students against ragging.
Prof B Laxmaiah, Dean Student Affairs, OU, said that the details of the steps taken to check ragging should be well documented. He suggested the colleges to maintain a calendar of events happening on the respective campuses.
Prof MSN Reddy, OU Registrar, said that every opportunity should be used to educate students warning them not to resort to ragging. He suggested that the Anti-Ragging posters be displayed on the campuses.
