Nizamabad: the Hub of Educational Excellence
The district headquarters of Nizamabad and the municipal town Bodhan have become educational hubs and higher learning centers with many colleges coming up in the recent past to cater to the educational needs of the students.
This is the first district among the five north Telangana districts to house a university, the Telangana University. The varsity has been expanding leaps and bounds having 20 disciplines and strong academics. Besides, plans to open a College of Engineering are on the anvil. The Government Medical College (GMC) sanctioned last year is likely to function from next year as land for the GMC, a teaching hospital and student hostels was identified and Rs. 35 crore was granted for the purpose.
The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) located at the temple town Basar on the banks of Godavari, just 30 kilometers away from here, is another feather in its cap. Higher education has been flourishing in the district with 10 engineering colleges, two pharmacy colleges, one dental sciences college and seven B.Ed colleges while several corporate junior colleges under private sector are operational.
There are around 4000 engineering seats in these colleges which considerably reduced the burden on parents in terms of expenditure. They are very convenient to the students as higher education has become comparatively cheaper here.
The district topped in the SSC public examination results for three consecutive years improving the pass percentage year after year. This year it set an unprecedented record by achieving 92.50 per cent in the SSC results. Similarly, it ranked third in the Intermediate examinations in the current year.
