The International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Hyderabad was primarily established to promote research in the emerging areas of computer sciences and information technology.
The seventh convocation of the IIIT held on Sunday gave the award of the first Ph.D produced by the institute. Million Meshesha, an Ethiopian national was awarded the Doctorate for his thesis on ‘Recognition and Retrieval from Documents Image Collections.’
Rajeev Sangal, Director, IIIT-H said that it was the only institute in the country allowing undergraduate students to participate in the ongoing research. The institute had a special undergraduate programme woven with a postgraduate programme wherein students have the flexibility in selecting courses and undertaking projects.
The director said the research culture reflected in the campus recruitments with the B.Tech (Hons) and MS students getting placed in all the top research companies with an average salary of Rs. 7.20 lakh per annum. The highest salary offered was Rs. 12 lakh per annum.
