B Ed aspirants agitation intensifies, 20 attempt immolation
Hyderabad, Dec 16 : Police went into tizzy on Thursday, after about twenty B Ed qualified candidates who had cleared the DSC 2008 attempted to immolate themselves after dousing kerosene on their bodies in front of the state Assembly.
The police personnel on guard at the Assembly managed to catch hold of the aspirants drenched in kerosene before they could carry out their threat of setting themselves afire. The police then formally arrested them and shifted them to the nearby police station.
Earlier, nearly 300 teacher aspirants, demanding justice in the recruitments, tried to picket the Assembly. The police disbursed them off by using their lathis to good effect.
The B Ed qualified candidates, who were not selected in the recruitment due to implementation of 30 per cent reservation for Secondary Grade Teacher posts, appealed to state government to consider their case sympathetically and do justice for them before the conclusion of Assembly session.
Later, the teacher aspirants tried went in a procession to storm the Directorate School Education. However, the police foiled their attempts and resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the teacher aspirants. The police took a few teacher aspirants into their custody and shifted them to a nearby police station.
The aspirants demanded that the government recruit candidates for teacher posts on common merit list and that the government make a clear statement over the issue before the conclusion of Assembly session.
The candidates warned that they would intensify their agitation until the government takes a concrete decision over filling the B Ed posts under the DSC 2008 lists.
