Will JD get copy-right notice for Homam ?
JD Chakravarthy was inspired by the Hollywood film The Departed to make Homam.
Now, the US production house Warner Bros published a legal notice in a Mumbai based national newspaper stating that no one should remake the Martin Scorsese directed film The Departed featuring Matt Damon, Leonardo Dicaprio and Jack Nicholson. Director Martin Scorsese won an Oscar award in 2006 for the film.
As per the notice, Warner Bros Entertainment Inc is the sole and exclusive copyright owner of the film The Departed and the remaking rights of Internal Affairs, a 2002 Hong Kong film, directed by Anderew Lau and Alan Mak. The Departed is based on Internal Affairs.
The notice says that Warner Bros has not licensed any party to remake it in India or elsewhere and legal proceedings shall be initiated against anybody violating its copyright.
JD Chakravarthy has copied The Departed frame-by-frame and made the Telugu film Homam which was a big hit at the box-office.
The question now is, will director JD Chakravarthy and producer Kiran Kumar Koneru of Homam get legal notices from Warner Bros for copyright violations?
