Wake Up Sid is a true to life story very well conceived and executed on screen that makes the elder audience to go back to their college days and the younger viewers an honest self-appraisal.
Siddharth Mehra (Ranbir Kapoor) with the pet name of Sid is the son of rich parents (Anupam Kher and Supriya Pathak) and studies in a college. He is a decent and good guy but is carefree and likes to chill out with friends Rishi (Namit Das) and Laxmi (Shikha Talsania). He has no plans for the future but is honest with his friendships.
Aisha Bannerjee (Konkona Sen Sharma) lands in Mumbai from Kolkata and she has an aim of establishing herself as an author. Her path crosses that of Sid and he and his friends help Aisha to take a grip on her mission in Mumbai where she is a stranger.
A series of incidents then motivate Sid to evaluate himself and his
introspection leads Sid to wake up.
Ranbir Kapoor is effortless and extremely effective in the role of Sid and you get the feeling that no other actor could have done better justice to that character. Konkona Sen Sharma comes out with an award winning performance. Anupam Kher and Supriya Pathak as usual are brilliant. Namit Das and Shikha Talsania are convincing and credible in their roles. Rahul Khanna is apt in his cameo.
Ayan Mukerji on his debut as director comes out with a real life-like story
that has enough emotions and conflicts that are handled in perfect manner. Though the second have appears to have a slight lag, the overall presentation of the film is deft and stylish. The dialogues by Niranjan Iyengar are serious, sensitive and sensible. Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is pleasant and a few numbers are quite melodious. Cinematography by Anil Mehta is of international standards and so is the audiography.
Wake Up Sid is a beautiful film that tickles your heart and mind and instantly identify yourself with the character of Sid and the scenes and situations may make you nostalgic.
Wake Up Sid is not just for multiplex audiences. The film has enough strength to appeal to all sections of the viewers.
The film has to be seen for the superb performances of Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma and the exciting story telling ability of Ayan Mukerji.
