The Central Board of Film Certification has given `A’ certificate to Sriram Raghavan unwillingly tone down the sex and violence in his upcoming thriller which is a revenge drama Badlapur which has stirred up many controversies of late with its decisions, has given an `A’ certificate. Mirror has learnt that the film was screened yesterday for the censors who were willing to give the Sriram Raghavan directorial a ‘UA’ rating, provided that the makers agreed to major cuts recommended by the Examining Committee. It was known from the source that -“But Sriram categorically told the Board that he’s very happy with an ‘A’ certificate as long as no scenes are cut. This caused some surprise as most filmmakers put up a fight”.
So what were these cuts the censors insisted on? “They wanted the makers to tone down the steamy scenes. There is a lovemaking scene between Varun and his on-screen wife Yami Gautam which they asked to be trimmed. They also recommended that a passionate kiss between Huma Qureshi, a prostitute, and Varun’s character, should be watered down to a passing smooch,” the source added.
Central Board members want to delete a scene in which Varun is seen hammering a man to death. But he says that “It’s one of the stand-out scenes of the film and the team was firm that they wouldn’t cut it”.
Varun strangling Nawazuddin’s character with a rope whose eyes bulge out as he bleeds profusely. All these scenes have now been retained.
Varun Dhawan has got adult certificate for the first time which is going to keep out a large section of his young fans. When contacted, even producer Dinesh Vijan and Sriram refused to comment.
