Vareva producer Umamaheshwar Rao kidnapped

Producer-director Umamaheshwar Rao, who is making the film Vareva with Gautham, son of Brahmanandam, has been kidnapped by another producer-distributor Raaj Varma who demanded Rs 15 lakhs to release Rao.

Umamaheshwar Rao had taken Rs 30 lakhs finance from Raaj Varma earlier and repaid it. But Varma was demanding Rs 10 lakhs more. Varma, along with G Giri, assistant director, G Vinay Kumar, rowdy-sheeter, Vinod Yadav, auto driver, and R Bose Naidu, businessmen kidnapped Rao and detained him in a private lodge in Kondapur. Varma released Rao after receiving a cheque for Rs 9 lakhs from Rao’s wife.

Umamaheshwar Rao had lodged a complaint with Jubilee Hills police on December 31. Based on the complaint, Jubilee Hills police inspector K Narsing Rao arrested Varma and his associates and seized Rs 8.04 lakh cash, six tolas gold jewellery, five cellphones, a Hyundai Verna car (AP9BN 279), a pistol and six live rounds from their possession.
