Tollywood is Facing Tough Times
Tollywood is going through a difficult phase. It is experiencing a lack of serious and meaningful films. Audiences looking at films for weekend entertainment are another reason for Tollywood to worry about. Theatres are houseful on weekends and public holidays but the reverse situation is in case of weekdays. And that is not enough now audiences only come to theatres only if it features a blockbuster. Other films barely get viewers. If a film is a low-budgeted one then it can recover the money within days but if it happens to be a big-budgeted one then it must run throughout the weeks to recover its money.
Let us take the example of ‘Govindudu Andarivadele’ , this film minted money during the Dassera holidays but after the holidays were over, its collections dropped heavily. Film was put in the average category and it experienced a loss of 10-20 percent on the production cost. Earlier, the same was experienced by Yevadu. After Sankranthi holidays were over the collection dropped to minimum. Films like Manam, Loukyam and Race Gurram managed to run for consecutive three-four weeks. This is the reason why the film-makers are trying to make films with less production cost. This will be beneficial because then the selling price will also be reduced.
