TN CM Jayalalitha decided to clarify Govt stand on Viswaroopam as her decision to ban the film turned into major political controversy with opposition leader and DMK patriach, Karunanidhi who was also a former CM, alleged that Jaya was nurturing a grudge since film makers refused to sell rights to her channel Jaya TV for low price.
Jayalalitha said TN Govt only delayed release of the film even though it had the option of banning it totally. She said she got intelligence inputs that there would be violence if screening was permitted. She cited example of film being banned in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Singapore.
Jaya however said screening would be permitted if both rival parties arrive at amicable solution and her Govt will facilitate it. She threatened to sue Karunanidhi for his extortion statements.
