Ritesh Batra’s much lauded epistolary romance drama ‘The Lunchbox’ which won the Critics Week Viewers Choice Award at Cannes Film Festival in 2013 has been named best first feature by Toronto Film Critics.
The film tells the nostalgic love story between a lonely housewife and an about to retire widower, who get connected through a wrongly delivered lunchbox.
The film which was set in Mumbai has Irrfan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Nimrat Kaur in key roles.
Earlier Batra had made short films like Gareeb Nawaz’s Taxi, The Morning Ritual and Cafe Cairo, was initially set to make a documentary on the impeccable dabbawalla service in Mumbai, where only one delivery in a million goes wrong.
On September 20, 2013 ‘The Lunchbox’ released in India.
